Second Stage - Online Community Service

So, for our online community service, our group held a 14 days mental health challenge through social media platform which is Instagram as it is the most used social media currently. We created an Instagram page to post some of the information regarding mental health to raise up the awareness and to conduct our main project which is 14 days mental health challenge. After 3 weeks of preparing our execution on Instagram, from compiling files, research to learn more depth about mental health, prepare Instagram account and designing the page, finally we’re ready to conduct our online mental health community service through Instagram! I think our group did quite well on this since we divide tasks clearly and everyone do their job nicely! I feel happy about this HAHAHAH anyway, I was given an opportunity to handle all the designing part of our Instagram page while my groupmates handle on the page promoting (we reach Taylor’s university and college official account as well as several of the Taylor’s organization), sending messages, document searching and also take part in reposting the story. However, even though we divide the tasks between the group members, I’m happy that overall we do all the parts together . Well, not all of the part can be done easily at one go, but we never give up! Some of the Instagram page refuse to promote our page due to some matters but luckily, we have many other platforms to support us! I’m glad to know that people still concern and care about mental health issues

Throughout the first few days of the 14 days mental health challenge execution, we all felt nervous about it. Some thoughts and doubt like “will they do our challenge?” “will we get positive response on this?” “will our challenge help them?” came up on our minds. However, as the challenge goes by, we can see more people are actually contributing to our challenge! We are happy that we could get positive responses from the participants which means that we succeed in helping them . However, we faced some challenges and difficulties especially when sending response to those who actually participated in our challenge (reposting their stories). As some people mentioned that we have missed reposting their story, we really felt bad about it. The Instagram privacy settings and also some errors are not allowing us to see and repost some of the stories posted. Therefore, we have tried to reach some of them (which we could able to reach) and ask whether they could send us the story privately and repost them to encourage others in doing the challenge. At the end, some people actually did that and we’re glad that the enthusiasm on this challenge is there.

At the current stage, we are opening a google form feedback survey to gauge our achievements during the 14 days challenge. The survey is to track our progress success level or our expected outcome of this project in terms of the benefit we gave (if we really helped them ), to track how many people we were able to reached out  and also we are open to receive some feedbacks.

Through the challenge, I could see there are many different ways that people could do to build themselves up. As an example, during the “Productive Wednesday” challenge, which was about doing self-improvement, there are many different things that people do to improve themselves such as reading books, cooking, or even listen to a podcast. I learned that every people are unique, and they might go through different kind of situations and different types of personalities. This encourage me to learn more and to understand about people’s conditions as not all of them have the same level of mental health and they might go through different types of mental illness. I hope that by creating the page (especially through the reposted story and posts) people will have more awareness and appreciate each other.
